YAKIMA -- Former Prosser player and Boise
State offensive tackle Dan Gore didn't get selected on the final
day of the NFL Draft, but agreed to a free-agent contract with the
Miami Dolphins.
Gore confirmed the signing when reached on his cell phone
Sunday evening. He shrugged off not being drafted -- which he
expected -- and will leave for Miami's training camp on Thursday
with hopes of making the team.
"Four other teams were talking to me," said Gore, who is
6-foot-5 and 300 pounds. "The Dolphins just had the best feel and
the best opportunity."
Gore said he talked to Prosser football coach Tom Moore about
the news. Moore confirmed the 2003 Prosser graduate is the
school's first to have an opportunity in the NFL. Gore played on
the offensive and defensive lines in high school, lettering in
track and field and basketball as well.
In college at Boise State, Gore struggled at first on the
defensive line after redshirting his first year. He switched to
the offensive line last season and started all
12 of BSU's games at right tackle. The unit finished the regular
season ranked ninth for total offense in the country.
He's hoping for a smoother transition into the NFL.
"I'll take it how it comes and work as hard as I can," Gore
said. "Hopefully I can make the team, and it will be a good
measuring tool of where I'm at."
