Prosser’s Moore grabs TD record

EPHRATA — It’s official. No receiver in high school football history has caught more touchdown passes than Kirby Moore.

The Prosser senior, who spent two seasons catching scoring aerials from older brother Kellen and the last two hauling in touchdown tosses from Jordan Durbin, caught four Friday night in the Mustangs’ 48-17 victory over Ephrata. That gave Moore — whose college plans will team him up once again with his older brother, now the starting quarterback at Boise State — a career total of 86 touchdown receptions.

That broke the national record of 83, set from 1993 to 1996 by Abram Booty of Shreveport (La.) Evangel Christian. Moore has 25 touchdown catches this year, and with the Mustangs seemingly primed for a long run into the state playoffs, he is also on pace to break his own single-season state record of 29. He set that mark last year, when he broke the record of another Mustang, current Washington Husky Cody Brun.

Jordan Durbin passed for 412 yards and six touchdowns, four of them to Kirby Moore, as the top-ranked Mustangs rolled over the Tigers. Durbin’s TD passes to Moore went for 32, 9, 55 and 36 yards, and Beau Hazzard and Dominic Garza caught the other two. Moore had 16 receptions for 267 yards.

EPHRATA -- Kirby Moore caught 18 passes for 279 yards and four TDs -- giving him the national prep career record of 86 receiving touchdowns -- as Jordan Durbin passed for 449 yards and six TDs while Prosser flattened Ephrata in a CWAC 2A contest.
