2009-2010 Mustang Girls game recaps

2/27/10 - In Sunnyside , the lady Mustangs and East Valley Red Devils met once again in the District Championship and the game didn't disappoint. The Mustangs jumped out to a 28 to 16 halftime lead but it wouldn't last. The Red Devils outscored the Mustangs by six in the third and fourth quarters to force overtime. In overtime, Tayshia Hunt stepped up and scored 8 of the 9 points in overtime to push the Mustangs to the 55 to 50 win. Tamara Jones led the Mustangs with 17 pts, Kelli Wilson had 13 pts (including four 3 pointers) & Tayshia Hunt added 13pts.

2/27/10 - In Wapato , the lady Mustangs had to overcome foul trouble and themselves in a come from behind victory that will send them back to the 2A State tournament. Prosser had to overcome early foul trouble (including 3 on Tamara Jones) but found themselves only down by three at the half. The Mustang still struggled in the third quarter but were only down by one going into the fourth. In the fourth the Mustangs found their stride and with some clutch free throws by Helen Peterson and some tough "D", they outscored the Bulldogs 17 to 4 for a 54 to 42 victory. Tamara Jones had 15 pts& 8 rebs, Helen Petersen added 12 pts, 4 assists & 4 steals, while Helena Hudak & Tayshia Hunt each chipped in 9 pts.

2/19/10 - In Prosser , the lady Mustangs jumped out to a 29 to 12 to first half lead as the Mustangs held the Red Devils to 21% shooting in the first half. The Mustangs had to hold off a second half East Valley rally but held on for the 55 to 42 victory and a share of the CWAC league title. Tamara Jones had 17 pts & 14 rebs to lead the Mustangs, Helen Peterson added 11 pts & 9 rebs & Tayshia Hunt chipped in 8 pts & 4 assists  and 3 steals.

2/16/10 - In Grandview , the lady Mustangs only allowed the Greyhounds 18 points through 3 quarters to win 48 to 31. This win and Ellensburg's loss to Othello guarantees the Mustangs at least 2nd place in league. Helena Hudak had a big game as she led the Mustangs with 16 pts & 6 rebs, Tayshia Hunt added 9 pts & Rachel Anderson put in 7 pts.

2/13/10 - In Prosser, the lady Mustangs held the Wildcats of Toppenish to only 13 second half points as they pulled away for the 58 to 36 league win. Tamara Jones was hot again as she put in 22 pts, 12 rebs, 5 assists & 3 steals, Rachel Anderson added 14 pts & Tayshia Hunt chipped in 8 pts.

2/12/10 - In Wapato, the lady Mustangs went into halftime with a 0 point lead and then blew the game wide open in the second half out scoring the Wolves 32 to 15 enroute to a 67 to 40 victory. Tamara Jones was on fire with a season high 31 pts & 9 rebs, Kelli Wilson added 13 pts in including three 3 pointers & Rachel Anderson went for 10 pts.

2/6/10 - In Prosser, in what can be described as foulfest 2010 both teams were called for over 40 fouls in a game the refs were determined to be a part of. The lady Mustangs used 22 point efforts in the third & fourth quarters to pull away from a game Vikings team and won 77 to 56. Tayshia Hunt led the Mustangs with 17 pts & 5 steals, Helen Petersen & Tamara Jones chipped in 16 pts each.

2/5/10 - In Prosser, the lady Mustangs and lady Bulldogs played a thriller for second place in the CWAC. The Bulldogs jumped out to a early 17 to 5 lead after the first quarter but the Mustangs quickly responded with their own 15 to 5 second quarter run to be only down by four at the half. The second half would see runs by both teams only to be answered back and the lady Mustangs held on for the 54 to 52 win. Tamara Jones led the Mustangs with 17 pts & 5 rebs, Tayshia Hunt added 9 pts & Rachel Anderson chipped in 8 pts.

1/30/10 - In Prosser, the lady Mustangs built a 34 to 21 halftime lead and finished strong as they bet the Huskies 60 to 41. Tayshia Hunt had 15 pts, 7 rebs, 5 assists & 4 steals, Tamara Jones put in 15 pts & 8 rebs, Helena Hudak continued her strong play with 10 pts, Rachel Anderson added 10 pts & Kelli Wilson had 10 assists & 4 steals.

1/29/10 - In Prosser, the Mustangs used a seven point second quarter advantage and a twelve point third quarter advantage to pull away from the visiting Jacks for a 70 to 48 victory. Tayshia Hunt & Tamara Jones both poured in 17 pts & Helen Peterson added 8 pts.

1/23/10 - In Prosser, the lady Mustangs built a 34 to 21 halftime lead and finished strong as they bet the Huskies 60 to 41. Tayshia Hunt had 15 pts, 7 rebs, 5 assists & 4 steals, Tamara Jones put in 15 pts & 8 rebs, Helena Hudak continued her strong play with 10 pts, Rachel Anderson added 10 pts & Kelli Wilson had 10 assists & 4 steals.

1/22/10 - In Moxee, the lady Mustangs could not over come a 10 point halftime deficit and seven 3-pointers, as they fell to the league leading Red Devils 49 to 41. Tamara Jones led the way with 15 pts & 7 rebs, & Tayshia Hunt added 11 pts.

1/16/10 - In Prosser, the lady Mustangs came out strong again as they jumped all over the Greyhounds with a 15 to 5 first quarter run and led 35 to 17 at the half as thy dismantled Grandview 73 to 43. Tamara Jones led the way 24 pts, 8 rebs & 5 steals, Helena Hudak was all over the court and finished with 11 pts and 3 steals & Kelli Wilson added 9pts.

1/15/10 - In Toppenish, the Mustangs came out on fire and led 29 to 5 at the half as they demolished Toppenish 68 to 23. Tayshia Hunt led the way with 15 pts & 10 rebs, Tamara Jones added 12 pts & 7 rebs & Helen Peterson chipped in 10 pts.

1/9/10 - In Prosser, the lady Mustangs overcame a sluggish start and a eight point halftime deficit with a 14 point third advantage to beat the Wolves 44 to 33. Tamara Jones led the Mustangs with 12 pts & 12 rebounds, Helen Peterson scored 11 pts & Tayshia Hunt scored 9 pts.

1/8/10 - In Selah, the lady Mustangs jumped all over the Vikings with a 15 to 4 first quarter run and never looked back with a 51 to 27 victory. Tayshia Hunt scored 20 pts to led the Mustangs & Tamara Jones put in 15 pts.

12/30/09 - In Sunnyside, the lady Mustangs jumped on the Grizzlies with a 28 to 5 first quarter run and never looked back in a 71 to 39 non league win. Brooke Adams & Tayshia Hunt led the Mustangs with 19 pts. apiece, while Tamara Jones added 16 pts & Helena Hudak added 10 pts.

12/28/09 - In Ellensburg, the lady Bulldogs used a 10-12 free throw advantage and hit three 3-pointers in the 4th quarter to hold off the Mustangs and won 58 to 50. Tayshia Hunt paced the Mustangs with 18pts, Tamara Jones had 15 pts and Kelli Wilson chipped in 11 pts.

12/19/09 - In Prosser , once again the lady Mustangs jumped out early with  17 to 4 first quarter run as they held the Tigers of Ephrata to 27% shooing on the night and earned a 58 to 34 CWAC win. Tamara Jones and Tayshia Hunt paced the Mustangs with23 pts & 13 pt respectively.

12/18/09 - In Quincy, the lady Mustangs used a 8-2 first quarter run to go up early and they never looked back as they took down the Jackrabbits of Quincy 56 to 37. Tamara Jones lead the way with 20 pts, Helen Peterson added 9 pts, and Taylor Flores chipped in 6 pts.

12/11/09 - In Othello, Tayshia Hunt scored 23 points and Tamara Jones reached the 1,000-point plateau in career scoring to spark Prosser to a 55-48 win over Othello in the CWAC girls opener for both teams Friday night. Jones finished with seven points, and also grabbed 13 rebounds.  Hunt, who was 9 of 16 from the field, also had eight rebounds.

 12/08/09 - In Yakima, the starting of a new season saw a renewing of old  rivalries, as Prosser took on the Rams of West Valley. Both teams got onto runs in the first half as the Mustangs jumped out to a 16 to 7 1st quarter lead but the Rams answered back with a 17 to 7 2nd quarter run to lead 24 to 23 at the half. The Mustangs fought hard but found themselves down by five entering the4th quarter and couldn't over take the Rams and fell 53 to 51. Tamara Jones led the way with 17 pts ad 11 rebs, Rachel Anderson added 12 pts, & Tayshia Hunt chipped in 7 pts.
