2008-2009 Mustang Girls game recaps

3/14/09 - In Yakima, the lady Mustangs finished off the '08-'09 not like they would have wanted. West valley (Spokane) got off to a hot start outscoring the Mustangs in the first three quarters to push their lead to at one point 25 pts. The Mustangs did try to rally in the 4th period as they outscored the Eagles 21 to 12, but it was too little to late as the Mustangs fell 49 to 63. The Mustangs had to settle for the 6th place trophy which is nothing to be ashamed of, as this is the third straight year of bringing home some hardware. Senior Lacie French led her team in her last game with 21 pts, 4 assists & 3 rbs, while Tamara Jones added 15 pts, 11 rebs, 3 steals, & 3 blocked shots.

3/13/09 - In Yakima, maybe it was Friday the 13th rearing it's ugly head, but the lady Mustangs couldn't overcome some cold first half shooting (5 of 24) and a 20 to 12 second quarter run by the Wildcats as the Championship hopes faded with the loss to Archbishop Murphy 35 to 50. Tamara led all Mustangs with 16 pts & 7 rbs, Lacie French added 8 pts & Helen Peterson chipped in 5 pts.

3/12/09 - In Yakima, the lady Mustangs had a 6 point lead at the half and needed it as Katie Colard scored 35 pts to lead Elma in the comeback attempt, but the Mustangs would hold with a final of 61 to 56 over the Elma Eagles to head into the semi-finals. Tamara Jones led the way again with 24 pts, 13 rbs & 5 assists, Tayshia Hunt has a career game with 19 pts & 8 rbs, and Lacie French added 9 pts & 3 rbs.

3/11/09 - In Yakima, the lady Mustangs got off to a great start as they were up on the Red Raiders by 12 points and the end of the 3rd. Bellingham would make a furious 4th quarter comeback as they got within 1 point during the fourth but the Mustangs hit some free throws down the line and  won by a final of 72 to 68. Tamara Jones led the way with 23 pts, 8 rbs, Lacie French added 22 pts 6 rbs & 10 assists & Tayshia Hunt contributed 13 pts & 5 rbs.

3/7/09 - In Sunnyside, the lady Mustangs finally got over the hurdle last night. The previous two years the Mustangs have come up short in winning the District title, but this year would not be the same. The lady Mustangs used a decisive 14 to 4 run in the fourth period to pull away from the Othello Huskies for a final of 63 to 53. This was the first District title for the Mustangs since 1996. Senior Lacie French led the Mustangs with 23 pts (including three 3 pointers), Tamara Jones put in 18 pts & 8 rebounds, Kelli Wilson added 5 pts & 4 steals & Tayshia Hunt chipped in 7 pts, 9 rebounds & 6 steals.

2/28/09 - In Moxee, the lady Mustangs overcame a 6 point third quarter deficit with a 16 to 10 fourth quarter run to sneak past the Ellensburg Bulldogs 47 to 44 and clinch their third straight state appearance. Lacie French led the comeback with 16 pts, Tamara Jones added 14 pts and Shy Roberts played a very solid game off the bench and put in 6 pts.

2/20/09 - In Moxee, the lady Mustangs got into foul trouble early and could never recover from a 17 point third quarter deficit, as they fell 53 to 59.Tamara Jones led the way with 27 pts & 18 rebounds, Lacie French had 11 pts and Kelli Wilson added 6 pts.

2/17/09 - At Bowden Court, the Mustangs & Greyhounds played a sloppy first half with Grandview leading 17 to 15 at halftime. Finding themselves down by eight at the end of three, the lady mustangs went on a 16 to 0 run in the fourth quarter to comeback for the win and remain undefeated in CWAC play. Lacie French led the Mustangs with 18 pts, Tamara Jones added 15 pts, while Kelli Wilson cjippe in 7 pts.

2/14/09 - In Toppenish, the lady Mustangs overcame a slow start but out scored the Wildcats 36 to 11 in the second half as they ran away with the win 58 to 36. Tamara Jones led the team with 22 pts, Lacie French added 12 pts & five others tied with 4 pts apiece.

2/13/09 - At Bowden Court, the lady Mustangs used a 10 to 0 run to finish the game, as they had to overcome a game Wapato Wolves squad 56 to 52 to remain undefeated for the year. Kelli Wilson & Helen Peterson went 3 of 4 from the free throw to put the game away with lessthan 10 seconds to play. Tamara Jones led all scorers with 24 pts & 11 rebs, Lacie French added 11 pts & 4 assists, while Helen Peterson added 7 pts & 3 stls.

2/6/09 - In Ellensburg, a 18 to 6 third quarter run proved to be enough as the lady Mustangs held of the Bulldogs 59 to 53. Lacie French had 18 pts & Tamara Jones added 14 pts.

2/7/09 - In Selah, the lady Mustangs led 31 to 9 at the half and never looked back as they sank the Vikings 56 to 22. Helen Peterson scored a season high 13 pts, Lacie French added 11 pts & Tamara Jones chipped in 8 pts.

1/30/09 - The lady Mustangs remained undeafeated on the season as they used a 15 to 5 run to put away the pesky Jackrabbits 50 to 33. Tamara Jones led the way with 14 pts & 11 rebs, while Rachel Anderson put in 10 pts & Lacie French added 8 pts.

1/24/09 - The lady Mustangs trailed 24 to 38 with 10 1/2 minutes left in the game, but went on a 20 to 0 run to pull ahead and come away with a 58 to 49 win. Senoir Lacie French guided the Mustangs with a season high 25 pts, 8 rebs & 4 steals, Helen Peterson added 11 pts & Tamara Jones was held to 9 pts.

1/23/09 - The lady Mustangs used a 19 to 11 fourth quatrter advantage to pull away from East Valley and win 44 to 37. Tamara Jones led the way with 15 pts, Lacie French added 11 & Kelli Wilson put in 6pts.

1/9/09 - At Bowden Court the lady Mustangs used a 22 to 8 run in the 2nd quarter to pull away from the Vikings and win 45 to 34. Tamara Jones led all Mustangs with 22 pts while Lacie French & Kelli Wilson each added 8 pts apiece. 1/3/09 - At Bowden Court the lady Mustangs used a 35 to 22 run over the 2nd & 3rd quarters to pull away and hold off a rally by the Bulldogs in the 4th to win 68 to 59. Tamara Jones powered her way to lead all scorers with 32 pts, while Lacie French scored 15 pts and Kelli Wilson put in 8 pts.

12/21/08 - The lady Mustangs 15 to 11 first quarter lead proved to be enough as both teams played even throughout the rest of the game, as the Mustangs won 56 to 52 to remain undefeated. Lacie French had a game high 17pts & 4 assists, Tamara Jones added 15 pts, & Rachelle Anderson scored 8 pts.

12/20/08 - The lady Mustangs jumped out to a 18 to 3 lead after the first quarter and never looked back as they downed Quincy 74 to 27. Prosser led 26 to 8 at the half but used a 28 to 7 third quarter run to blow the game wide open. Tamara Jones led all scorers with 24 pts, while Lacie French chipped in 11 pts and Kelli Wilson & Rachel Anderson both added 8 pts each.

12/18/08 - The lady Mustangs proved to be too much for the smaller Grizzlies as Prosser used a 31 to 16 run over the 2nd and 3rd quarters to put the game out of reach, as the Mustangs won 65 to 47. Tamara Jones scored 18 of her 20 pts in the 2nd half to lead the team, while Lacie French added 13 pts and freshman Helen Peterson put in 9 pts.

12/12/08 - The Lady Mustangs had to overcome some cold shooting & some very bad refs, but they hung in and scored a CWAC victory by taking down the Othello Huskies 52 to 51 in OT. The lady Mustangs had to overcome some foul problems, but managed to pull ahead by one after the 1st quarter and up by six at the half. In the second half the Mustangs and Huskies played tough and ended up tied after regulation. In OT Tamara Jones hit a five foot bank shot with 6 seconds left for the win. Tamara Jones overcame foul problems to lead the team with 17 pts, while Kelsey Evans & Taylor Flores each put in 8 pts.

12/9/08 - The Lady Mustangs started the season on the right foot as they took down their old rivals, the West Valley Rams, 52 to 47. The Lady Mustangs only trailed by three points at the half 27 to 30, but fought back in the 3rd period to tie the game at 36. The 4th period started out with a lot of defense as neither team could score in the first three & a half minutes of the quarter.  But the Lady Stangs' D proved to be too much, as they outscored the Rams 16 to 11 down the stretch for the final margin. Tamara Jones led the way with 21 pts, Lacie French added 9 pts, & Taylor Flores chipped in 8 pts.
